Die Laughing

She thinks she'll pull it out of mystery books
Take it and write it out all on looks
She thinks she'll put it on a platform to win
I think I'd rather live laughing

She thinks she'll write it all out of her head
Twist and turn it till it's a perfect jem
I'd rather pour it right out of my heart
At least then I know I'll live laughing

It's a quiet kitchen
When you leave it, it all stays the same
Clean it so the spots come right back
Pop your pills wring your hands all over nothing
Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing

They think they'll baffle you with their big words
Talk so much louder so that they'll be heard
I'd rather rip it right out of my heart
Lie down on the ground and die laughing

It's a quiet lesson
When you leave it, it all stays the same
Clean it so the spots come right back
Pop your pills wring your hands all over nothing
Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing

I was thinking I wished I was like you
Talk it and turn it until my face turns blue
I love the way that it pours out my hands
Pours out my heart while I'm laughing
Pours out my heart while I'm laughing
It pours out my heart while I'm laughing

It's a quiet kitchen
When you leave it, it all stays the same
Clean it so the spots come right back
Pop your pills wring your hands all over nothing
Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing

Hard Luck Town

Corry Ulan, 2012

Nothin' but hardship, bringing me down
Nothin' but trouble, making me frown
Gotta get out, gotta get out of this hard luck town

Ante up, another round
But I'm always losing when the chips are down
Gotta get out, gotta get out of this hard luck town

This hard luck town, trouble and heartache
Hard luck town, causing me pain
This hard luck town, I've just got to get away

I don't know, where I'm bound
I'm always lost and never found
Gotta get out, gotta get out of this hard luck town

Like a queen, without her crown
I never smile, I only frown
Gotta get out, gotta get out of this hard luck town

My shrink says that nothing comes easy
You gotta give a little bit to get something back
But I read that this town has trouble...finding good doctors

When I'm dry, I feel drowned
Try to run but I'm stuck to the ground
Gotta get out, gotta get out of this hard luck town

Bit by bit, pound for pound
Inch by inch I'm coming unwound
Gotta get out, gotta get out of this hard luck town

Hell in the Hallways

Say good-bye to the devil
With a tip of your hat
One more mighty hug
From your good old buddy Jack

Lookin at what's happened
Through a water-color sky
While every ounce of energy
You keep on asking why

Lookin at hell in the hallways
Lookin at hell ohhh yaaa
Looking at hell in the hallways
When there's no place left to go
You there in the hallways

All you ever wanted is a haven
Safe and warm
A place to bunker down
While you waited out the storm

Reaching for the future
While your spinning to the ground
You open up to yell
But no one... can hear a sound

Lookin at hell in the hallways
Lookin at hell ohhh yaaa
Looking at hell in the hallways
When there's no place left to go
You there in the hallways

The hurricane is over
You open up the door
Lookin for your loved ones
You don't see them...anymore

Looking at what's happened
Wishing it weren't real
With an angel by your side
And you wrestle with the devil
For the wheel

Lookin at hell in the hallways
Lookin at hell ohhh yaaa
Looking at hell in the hallways
When there's no place left to go
You there in the hallways

Key

We're sitting on the ground again
We're holding hands again
Losing time and space, I hear you watch your face
We're listening, we're really listening

The first clue was deja vie
At second glance, I knew your stance
But what came third was too absurd
and I remember now that I know you

We're fallen stars you know
We can't put on the show
We're humbled and we're small, barely there at all
We're floating, we're really floating

Intentions pure, we seek a cure
But mist and moon would drown our tune
A dancing light filled up the night
and I remember now that I know you

If you come, you might just be surprised by what you're gonna find
We gather here by serendipity the universe aligns

We're learning how to breathe again
Sighing relief again
Diving, digging down to layers underground
We're growing, we're really growing

The signs galore, we can't ignore
A doubting heart, will now depart
Into the flow, we're letting go
and I remember now that I know you
I remember now that I know you

Circus

A black snake it slithers in his way
He was hoping they'd keep it tucked away
He says the fridge talks to the moon
Don't worry I'll quite soon
Let me just make one more call
He wakes up head on fire
Farm crops growing right outside
Wondered which way they had come

To be lying in a bed of steel
It was a wild morning full of carnie feel
Lay down rest my head
Smoke is pounding round my bed
He sits still with his shoulders high
Ask them to take his hands
It was some kind of wild chance
Full of sin and consequence

It's something as simple as a smile
A little man taught me cards when I was nine
Now I swing on a trapeze
Everything flies beneath
I hope he can gain a grip
One more inch I'll let go
Hope to God I don't fall
Hope he know what they are for
                     what they are for

Now the nighttime has crawled into the seams
They are drinking it smells like gasoline
Open mind will cool the soup
Street outside prostitutes
Tin boxes of oxygen
I see circus clowns all around
Red balloons in your town
I don't know what they are for
                   what they are for

Snow

Corry Ulan 2007

When the snow came down, in the early morning light
When the day took over the night, and the snow came down

When the snow came down, I breathed a sigh of relief
You stole the fall like a thief, and the snow came down

Like a blanket of white lace, like a lover's sweet embrace
I'm not ready to say goodbye

When the snow came down, I could hear the sparrows singing
In outrage at nature's bringing, and the snow came down

It hangs heavy on the trees but light on my heart
Is this cold winter's chill the end or just the start?

When the snow came down, it silenced the wind that was wild
Now it's calm and meek and mild, and the snow came down

Nanton Wind

It come from the mountains oh furious and strong
Keep ever strand all tucked away whether it be short or long
It tosses and tatters , so wear a hat or hood
If it touches down upon your head trust me... it won't be good

The soft pretty locks
Belonged to rugged Jack
Now the wind touched upon his head
And his hair ain't coming back

Myrtle's hair was too hear waist
Shiny thick and sleep
No her hair is cropped and shredded
And it only took one week

Oh you better
Hide your hair
From the moving a restless Nanton air
Oh you better
Hide your hair
From the moving a restless Nanton air

Tony had an afro they said better wear a hat
But Tony didn't listen and now his hair is flat
He reached inside the coop to collect the morning eggs
The wind flew up his pants there's no hair upon his legs

Oh you better
Hide your hair
From the moving a restless Nanton air
Oh you better
Hide your hair
From the moving a restless Nanton air

She was gonna feed the cows Mary headed for the barn
It tore off both her eyebrows and the hair from both her arms
He thought the wind died down, Bob opened up the door
Now Bobby's bald and shiny and his hair lies on the floor

Oh you better
Hide your hair
From the moving a restless Nanton air
Oh you better
Hide your hair
From the moving a restless Nanton air

Better run better run from the movin Nanton Air
Hold on boys, here come the Nanton air
Better run better run from the movin Nanton Air
Tell your brother's and sister's to beware

Upbeat Song

Life's not really that long
So I'm gonna sing an upbeat song

Life's too short it's a shame to report
That the days go by too quickly
So I'm gonna sing free like a bird in a tree
Won't you all sing with me

Everyday the shades of grey can get you down, down, down, down, down
A dull routine can make it seem you're going round, round, round, round, round
Yeah, life's not really that long so I'm gonna sing an upbeat song

Life's not long so I'm gonna be strong
And take nothing for granted
With some gratitude in my attitude
I'm gonna reap what I have planted

On my dear friends, I can depend to make our sound, sound, sound, sound, s
We take our time, enjoy the rhyme and spread it round, round, round, round, r
Oh, life's not really that long so we're gonna sing an upbeat song

Oh, it might me faster but it won't pass sir, in a major key
Oh, it's not for longing, there's no belonging in eternity

Life's not really that long
So I'm gonna sing an upbeat song

Time is an illusion, it's all in your head, it's all in your head
Must enjoy the moment, before you're dead, before you're dead

Life's not really that long so I'm gonna sing an upbeat song!

Reno

Reno so slow
Why'd you make me want to go
Reno hot as hell
This valleys heat burns through your soul

Left an burned out farm
For a couple of weeks
Wouldn't do no harm
I took a trip out west
To hit the gold
Now I'm left living in Reno

Thought you'd make it big
Find a man to pay
To make your dreams
Bring you all the way
But it didn't last
It was all a bust
Now your left living in Reno's dust

Reno so slow
Why'd you make me want to go
Reno hot as hell
This valleys heat burns through your soul

And it was all gone
Nothing left for me in good old Reno
And it was all gone
Nothing left for me to be in Reno

She calls me baby girl
I hang up the phone
I can't handle
Her slurred out tone
Oh and the price of beer
Has hit rock bottom
In the biggest little city I know

Reno so slow
Why'd you make me want to go
Reno hot as hell
This valleys heat burns through your soul
It burns through your soul...

and I wonder what I ever thought I'd left behind in good old Reno

Shore

Corry Ulan 2011

From this safe little corner, I have no fear,
but the unknown blue stretches out from here
If I had a boat I would sail across, but I have only legs,
Not wood, not oars better carry myself kick off from the shore

Diving into the unknown, breaking limb or shattering bone
You may swim up or sink like a stone
But still dive into the unknown

Regret, like the trail from a smoking black gun
Colours the canvas of things yet to come
You keep moving forward, you keep moving on
I tried, I failed but I won

Life is full of uncertainty, life is full of insecurity
I won't hide my face, just in case
I'm seen for who I really am

Pick up the Pieces

Take a long slow breath
Step up to the light
Have the honesty to admit that something
Just ain't right
We all need a balance
In our lives just the same
If you don't learn your lesson
Your gonna get to do it all again and again

Cause maybe ....Oh maybe
You gotta turn around pick up the pieces and move on
You gotta turn around pick up the pieces and move on

Take a long slow breath
Step up take a chance
Do you hear the music
Leading you on into your own dance
Deep down inside your soul
You know which way to go
If life's become a struggle
You gotta turn around and find your flow

Cause maybe ....Oh maybe
You gotta turn around pick up the pieces and move on
You gotta turn around pick up the pieces and move on

Take a long slow breath
Step up make a choice
Do you follow all the rest
Can you still hear your own voice
Take what seems a problem
Go to peace and find your strength
Oh change is gonna happen
If you live your life to any length, any length

Cause maybe ....Oh maybe
You gotta turn around pick up the pieces and move on
You gotta turn around pick up the pieces and move on

Do You Really Want

Every springtime you call me up an say
It's time to put the garden in
But when everything's raked and planted
You sweep me up in your old dust bin

Do you really want me to come over
Do you really want me to cry
Do you really want me to suffer
Do you really wanna say goodbye

Every fall you say come on over
Would you mind raking up the leaves
But when they're gathered and all the work's done
You blow me off like an autumn breeze

This seasonal relationship is getting me down
'Cause that's the only time you want me comin' round

Every time you need someone useful
Anytime you need something done
All the time when you need a favour
You treat me like I am your only one

In the winter your warm inviting
Brings me right back to your front door
But when you ask me to boost your car
I feel my heart falling on the floor
